Research summary
A clinical trial (TARGET-CTCA) is trying to find out if a heart scan will benefit patients who have come to hospital with chest pain but have not had a heart attack. Patients will either have been assessed and treated by the usual clinical care team based on NHS guidelines, or they will have received the usual clinical care based on NHS guidelines plus a computed tomography coronary angiogram (CTCA) scan arranged by the research team. Patients are randomly allocated to either receive a research scan or not when they enrol in the study. We would like speak to patients who have taken part in the main trial so we can understand more about how their assessment for chest pain has made them think about the health of their heart. We will invite patients to take part in a telephone or video call interview so we can understand if the research intervention of a heart scan had caused them to think any differently about the health of their heart, how they understood the results of their scan, and their opinion of the treatment recommendations that were made as a result of the scan. We will also speak to a small group of people who did not receive the scan to ensure that the themes that come up during the interviews are unique to those patients receiving a scan.
