Research summary
DynamX Medical are developing a new and unique non-invasive screening test to detect Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer from a simple cheek swab with extremely high accuracy. Cells collected from the cheek swab are processed and analysed using a very sensitive infrared light technology. This technology detects very small changes in cheek cells that can occur when there are cancerous changes present in the lung.
To get the technology approved for use in hospitals, we need to conduct a series of clinical trials. SwaDL is the first clinical trial required to gain approval. 450 participants (including: healthy volunteers, COPD patients and patients with suspected or confirmed lung cancer) will provide cheek swabs during a single visit to the clinic. These swabs will be analysed to demonstrate that there is a difference between cells from patients with and without lung cancer.
