Research summary
We are undertaking some research into the National Minimum Data Set for Social Care (NMDS-SC) which is a Department of Health funded data collection exercise which holds information about social care and care workers.
The NMDS-SC is used by government departments, local councils and other organisations, to understand more about social care and the social care workforce.
This baseline survey will help us to understand how many people work in social care and how many jobs there are and this helps councils to develop a greater knowledge of the people that work in social care and the service providers in your local area. This helps them to plan and develop a future workforce to meet the needs of people who use services and their carers.
We will be able to do this by understanding what proportion of direct payment recipients use their funding to directly employ their own care and support staff and also by understanding how many jobs Personal Assistants (PAs) have on average and which sectors they find employment within.
This work is crucial to being able to understand the fast-growing an fast-changing PA workforce across England and the related workforce development issues associated with it.
