Research summary
This project aims to combine and compare accounts by patients, physicians and trainee medical staff, to explore themes and issues they identify as relevant in the diagnosis, care and management of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in order to improve care and understanding between all parties. Patients' stories have rarely been included in such a process. We will explore the narrative themes that patients and medical staff identify as being relevant in the diagnosis, care and management of PH. Additionally, the nature of the clinical encounter in PH will be documented and discussed.
These studies aim to define for the first time core narrative themes of patients with PH, and their journey through a complex, life-limiting disease. Definition of these narrative threads will be of intrinsic value in Medical Humanities research, and direct patient-orientated Humanities and Science-based research in the future.REC name
