  • Research summary

The aim of this study is to provide a broader understanding of the experiences and needs of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals during and after the COVID-19 outbreak, and how they could be better supported. \n\nThrough numerous social media platforms, clinicians have reported on the negative impacts of working during the COVID-19 outbreak on their own health and wellbeing from the outset. However to date there have been no qualitative studies undertaken or published to inform how clinicians would like to be supported to maintain/ enhance their physical and mental health and wellbeing. While NHS trusts across the country are offering a number of wellbeing resources for their staff, it is not known whether these are adequate to meet the needs of clinicians working during and after COVID-19. As discussed in the background section, it has been highlighted that there is a need for more research in this area. This study will therefore contribute to the current knowledge in this area and highlight ways in which doctors, nurses and allied health professionals want to be supported during these extraordinary times. \nThe findings from this study could also help services to better prepare for any subsequent wave of the Coronavirus. \n\nThere are three main objectives of this study, which are to gain a broader understanding of:\n• frontline clinicians’ experiences of working during the COVID-19 pandemic\n• the reported impact of this work on frontline clinicians’ physical and mental health, and \n• how doctors, nurses and allied health professionals could be better supported to promote/enhance their physical and mental wellbeing during and after COVID-19.\n\nA one off In-depth qualitative interview will be conducted with 15-20 clinicians who meet the inclusion criteria. Each interview will be transcribed verbatim and analysed using thematic analysis. Each interview will be transcribed verbatim and analysed using thematic analysis.
