Research summary
This study aims to improve the ways that people with pain arising from knee cap joint (patellofemoral pain) are treated by grouping people with similar reasons for their kneecap pain. The study will initially group the people using findings from imaging (MRI scans), knee and hip strength (isokinetic dynamometry), walking assessment (gait analysis) and patient questionnaires. A sub-group of people will then participate in a supervised, targeted treatment group aimed to address problems identified in the assessment and this will be compared to a group of people who receive normal treatment. All the people participating in the study will be invited to return for follow up investigations at 1 year.
