Research summary
This trial aims to investigate whether a tampon can be used to diagnose a range of common vaginal infections HPV (Human Papilloma Virus), BV (bacterial vaginosis) and two other common infections (chlamydia and gonorrhoea). Infection with these can sometimes have symptoms, but can also be present with no symptoms. Infections can be low grade and can be present for a number of years. The tampon sample will be compared with two types of vaginal swab, one which you will take yourself, and one that will be taken by a trial nurse.
