Research summary
The concept of this study is to gain a better understanding of the pre-centrifugation stability and intra-individual variation of select biochemical analytes for which no data is currently available. The analytes include: 11-ketotestosterone, 11 beta- hydroxyandrostenedione, testosterone, androstenedione, 17 hydroxyprogesterone, 7 alpha- hydroxycholestenone, asymmetric dimethylarginine and symmetric dimethylarginine. To determine stability we intend to take approximately 30 mL of blood from each subject and dispense this into 7 serum SST tubes. The tubes will then be stored at room temperature and processed at different time points. To determine intra-individual variation we intend to take fasting blood samples from volunteers once a week for 10 weeks. The data will aid the clinical interpretation of results.
