• Research summary

  Standard minor surgical procedures such as discectomies, decompressions, anterior cervical discectomies, fusions, vertebroplasties and kyphoplasties in healthy adults that very rarely require blood transfusions or in fact any modification of patient blood parameters. Significant cost is however spent in the work-up of these patients and many of the laboratory investigations if not all are rarely if ever acted upon. This research aims to pilot a ‘no bloods’ policy for fit patients, undergoing simple spinal surgery at a saving of 25.58 per patient.
