  • Research summary

A Foundation Mental Health Trust seeks to understand patients’ experience of improvements or deterioration in their care due to changes driven by service needs of the Trust. An example of this could be where the Trust has introduced a new care pathway describing the steps to be taken when someone is referred with possible depression; in this example we would want to understand what are the participants’ views on how this was introduced and once implemented, what was their experience of how care was changed again as refinements were made to the pathway. This study will inform a larger study of who in an NHS Trust makes changes and for what reasons. This study seeks to add a local perspective. Patients associated with Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust who have previously agreed to provide input into changes to services, will take part in a 40 minute structured interview. They will give their views on changes in their care. Interview protocols will be examined to identify key issues.
