Research summary
This is a cross sectional study to determine age when ochronosis (dark pigment in connective tissues) begins in Alkaptonuria patients, by measuring ear cartlilage ochronosis, changes in gait and chamges in joint appearance.
This is almost identical to the REC-Approved Natural History Study of Alkaptonuria,
( 07/H1002/111) where ear biopsies, blood/urine collections, MRI scans, Gait analysis and questionnaires; the R&DI at Royal Liverpool University Hospital advised us the do this application to ring fence the time-limited EC-funded SOFIA study unlike the relatively open-ended Natural History Study.REC name
