Research summary
Social prescribing (SP) is a means of connecting primary care patients with non-clinical, community-based support groups with the aim of addressing an individual’s social issues to subsequently improve their mental health and quality of life.
A small number of studies have examined the barriers and facilitators to uptake of social prescribing in various settings. Published studies have interviewed people who have taken up the offer of social prescribing, and are therefore likely to exclude people in whom the barriers outweighed the facilitators to uptake. We found no studies that specifically explored uptake in a defined population such as people with mental health disorders.
We want to interview people with mental health conditions, in a general practice, who have accepted or declined social prescribing, or not been offered it.REC name
