Research summary
This project involves a feasibility study of an intervention called Groups for Health (G4H), which aims to reduce feelings of loneliness in people living with depression by increasing their social connectedness. G4H is a manualised group-based intervention with exercises exploring participants social goals and barriers to achieving these. It has previously been developed and successfully delivered to Australian university students. This study has four sequential objectives. The first objective of the study is to adapt the G4H programme for adults with depression in the UK. This will be done through one-to-one interviews with service users and clinical staff. The second objective of the study is to assess the feasibility (recruitment, retention, acceptability) of delivering G4H to adults with depression accessing NHS mental health services. This will be assessed in a single group pre-post study where G4H will be delivered to a sample of current service users accessing support for depression. The third objective is to optimise the adapted intervention for delivery to adults accessing treatment for depression in the UK. This will be done through interviews with participants following the feasibility study. The fourth objective is to optimise evaluation procedures for future evaluations of G4H. This will be done be assessing the performance of different candidate outcome measures during the feasibility study.
