  • Research summary

Many frontline healthcare staff report problems with sleep, which can contribute to poor physical and psychological health. Shift working and stress from the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated sleep issues.
The study will explore the use of a 'sleep package' incorporating the use of a virtual reality headset showing relaxing scenes before bed, and an eyemask and noise cancelling earbuds during sleep, to identify whether this improves sleep quantity and quality and general wellbeing.
Participants will complete validated questionnaires before and after the study assessing anxiety, depression, alcohol use and sleep issues. Sleep will be assessed subjectively via a daily questionnaire and objectively using a Fitbit sleep tracker for a period of three days with the sleep package and three days without the package (sequence to be randomly allocated).
