  • Research summary

There is evidence to suggest that operating of COVID-19 positive patients leads to an increased mortality rate. With elective cancer surgery now increasing in the UK it is key to identify patients who have COVID-19 but are asymptomatic. The optimal method for screening patients for COVID infection before elective cancer surgery is unclear. Many centres across the UK, including Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, have decided to screen patients preoperatively for COVID, asking patients to report symptoms prior to surgery as well as swabbing patients before operating. The aim of this study is to assess this screening process.
