Research summary
An interview based exploration into the shame experiences of adult mental health service users who hear voices and an exploration into how these experiences may affect the relationship between the individual and themselves, others and their voices.
The aim is to gather a more in-depth understanding of these experiences and how they may affect relationships and distress, which has previously only been explored in a questionnaire format or during small-scale case studies including one or two participants. The outcomes of the study may help to inspire further research into how psychological treatments that target feelings of shame could be helpful for decreasing distress in individuals who hear voices and experience shame.
Participants will take part in semi-structured interviews with the main researcher either online or in an NHS building (COVID-19 restrictions depending) which will last approximately 45 minutes to one hour each.REC name
