Research summary
Relapse Prevention Planning is a type of recovery-focused intervention which aims to help service users to identify signs that they may be becoming unwell, along with strategies to manage these. These are generally done in collaboration with mental health professionals.
In this study I will interview service users and professionals on their views on relapse prevention plans, as these are yet to be represented in the literature. All participants will be from an Early Intervention for Psychosis service in Cambridge. I plan to interview 5 participants in each group. Participant dyads will not be used.
All service users from the team who have a relapse prevention plan will be identified by professionals within the team, and sent an information sheet and a cover letter outlining my request for their participation and my contact details by their worker. Service users who are interested in taking part in the study would then be expected to contact me for more information and/or to arrange an interview within 2 weeks of receipt. Professionals will be recruited via an email sent around by their team manager with an information sheet attached. Professional participants will also be asked to contact me for further information within 2 weeks. Should more than 5 volunteer in each group, participants will be selected based on demographic data (see A6-2 for details). All participants will be offered an interview at Union House (mental health building). If this is not feasible, they will be offered a home visit and/or a telephone interview.
Prior to their interview, participants will be given a consent form to read and sign. Once this is done, the interview will commence. The interview will last no longer than 60 minutes.
The interviews will then be transcribed, coded, and the resultant data analysed thematically. NVivo software will be used .
