Research summary
Hypodontia (missing teeth) affects 3.5-6.5% of the population and treatment can often be complex and lengthy. Generally an interdisciplinary approach combining orthodontic treatment (braces) and restorative dentistry (crowns, bridges, implants etc.) is required and a patient Care Pathway can extend from childhood into adulthood. In recent years, Care Pathways and a patient’s experience of them are becoming increasingly important within the NHS.
There is little research available on the expectations of patients with hypodontia following their initial diagnosis, how they cope with lengthy treatment, and whether they are satisfied following completion of orthodontic treatment and placement of their definitive restorations, if required. This study will be an evaluation of the Hypodontia Care Pathway at the Eastman Dental Hospital, UCLH Foundation Trust in order to improve our understanding of the patient experience.REC name
