Research summary
The aim of this investigation would be to determine the viability of using a single sample for automated blood grouping and for Fetal Maternal Haemorrhage (FMH) estimation by Kleihauer film, with confirmation using flow cytometry. Since it was important that an accurate and correct FMH volume was calculated in order for the correct dose of anti-D to be issued, pool Kleihauer methodology and pre-treatment of specimens might have clinical consequences.
The investigation would use a range of specimens with a known bleed volume having this bleed volume measured by Kleihauer and flow cytometry both before and after automated blood grouping.
