  • Research summary

This study will investigate blood samples taken from a cross-sectional sample of the population of England to measure levels of antibody against the following viral infections: measles, mumps, rubella, herpes simplex type 1 and type 2 and varicella-zoster viruses. The presence of antibody indicates the individual patient has been exposed to these infections in the past and therefore collection of these data will be used to understand the epidemiology and burden of disease cause by these viruses. This research will inform National vaccination and healthcare strategies and policy. All samples will be anonymised, the only information provided with the sample will be age, sex and laboratory of sample origin. These parameters are required to allow an epidemiological profile for each virus to be established.
