Research summary
This is a study looking at 24-hour fluctuations in eye pressure in patients with high eye pressures or glaucoma, a disease of the optic nerve and is a common cause of blindness. 200 patients recruited over 2 years from eye clinics at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, will be provided with a commercially available medical device (iCare HOME®) to use at home. This device allows them to measure their own eye pressures without the need for eye drops. Measurements will be taken at fixed times for 3 consecutive days, before and after any medical, laser or surgical treatment (3 groups) as planned by their lead eye doctor. Patients will not be required to attend the hospital more than 4 times for the study.
We will compare the differences in fluctuations noted, to enable us to understand how different treatments can affect eye pressures. This can influence future decisions in management of their disease.REC name
