Data collection arrangements
Subject privacy and confidentiality will be maintained through the storage of study data in our NHS computers. Each subject will be assigned a unique study number/identifier for identification in the biobank. This unique number will not be derived from or related to information about the individual. The key linking this unique study number to patient identifiers (i.e., name, medical record number, date of birth, registry number) will be maintained in the NHS computer database to which only the approved biobank personnel will have access. Immediately following data entry into the password protected databases, the paper-based data collection instruments will be stored in a locked file cabinet.
Samples will be stored at our HTA licenced rooms at Southbank campus (HTA licence 12522) and/or Denmark Hill campus (HTA licence 12293).Research programme
The School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences (SCMMS) provides an outstanding multi-disciplinary environment for the pursuit of cutting-edge cardiovascular and metabolic research. We study the fundamental molecular, cellular, and physiological processes that underly normal and abnormal cardiovascular and metabolic function and drive the translation of this strong basic science into advances in clinical practice. The SCMMS focuses on four main themes, including cardiac (focusing on normal function of the heart to provide the basis for understanding pathological changes), vascular (focusing on functioning blood vessels), cardiometabolic (combining different -omics technologies and data integration using state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools and techniques) and Diabetes & Obesity (to better understand the causes, mechanisms and novel therapies of diabetes and metabolic diseases); with two cross-cutting Themes: Basic and Clinical. The work of the SCMMS is closely integrated with the clinical cardiovascular and metabolic services of Guy’s & St Thomas, King’s College Hospital and South London and Maudsley, and the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals through the King’s Health Partners (KHP) Cardiovascular Clinical-Academic Group (CAG) and the Institute of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Obesity.
