Research summary
Breast Augmentation remains the most popular cosmetic procedure. As with any surgery, it is important to keep patients pain free. Pectoral nerve block is proposed as a novel way of achieving loco-regional pain control in aesthetic augmentation mammoplasty.Injection of local anaesthetic during the operation to the nerve supplying the pectoralis muscle onto or under which the implant is placed is investigated as a new form of achieving pain control in aesthetic breast augmentation. This technique has not been studied before and will allow plastic surgeons to improve upon their technique and quality of care and also achieve higher patient satisfaction.
