Research summary
Analysis of patients who have undergone a proximal interphalangeal (middle knuckles) joint replacement (PIPJR) of the fingers by the senior investigator through a lateral approach (side of the finger); we wish to compare pre and post op (before and after the surgery) scores (related to how their condition affected them before and after the operation) and functional data such as movement of finger and grip strength of the hand. PIPJR is commonly undertaken through a posterior approach (back of the finger); however through a lateral approach the extensor mechanism (tendons on back of finger which help to straighten finger) is left intact.
