Data collection arrangements
Data identifying the study cohort will be scraped from the Barry Hugman website. This contains names, dates of birth, dates of death (where applicable) and playing career (football clubs with dates). We will use the relevant parts of these data to send to NHS England to identify those who have died and associated and underlying causes of death. Names, day of birth and day of death will be removed from the data set in order to create a pseudonymised data set for analysis.
Research programme
This project supports the high profile research into whether professional/elite sportspersons are at increased risk of death from neurological disorders.
