  • Research summary

Reset is an intersectoral partnership, designed to increase community resilience of older adults with a number of health and care needs, enabling them to experience more good days. It has been developed based on existing expertise and research evidence generated by the project partners, Queen Margaret University (QMU), Cyrenians, and Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership (EHSCP), and includes social prescribing, community navigation, and case management, using a resilience framework (Górska et al. 2021; Whitehall et al. 2021) and the Incite intersectoral practice model (Irvine Fitzpatrick 2019). The research is important because it provides a unique opportunity to develop and implement a new, evidence based, resilience focussed community support for older adults with complex health and social care needs living in the city of Edinburgh. This area of need is currently unmet by statutory services.

The research will generate new knowledge about how best to implement resilience-focussed community support in Edinburgh city. The research is a live example of system change in action; the innovative new Reset service is preventative, holistic, has minimal referral criteria and seeks to tackle ‘what matters most’ to people. The research will employ mixed methods and Participatory Action Research (PAR) will be used to explore experiences of and perspectives on the proposed community support model. People who receive support from Reset team will be asked to complete a questionnaire designed to identify their resilience needs. Furthermore, older people living in Edinburgh and health and social care staff working in Edinburgh will be invited to contribute their views on and experiences of the Reset service during a series of PAR activities. Their views and experiences will be used to shape the Reset model of community support. The research is funded by EHSCP and will be conducted in the city of Edinburgh.
