Data collection arrangements
Patients will be asked if they would be willing to donate excess skin from a variety of different procedures to be used in this research. This is entirely optional, and patients do not have to take part or can change their mind at anytime without giving a reason. The samples will be collected at the Nuffield Health sites where patients are undergoing their surgery by a fully trained Research Fellow. The samples will be recorded on a secure database both at Research Donors and the Nuffield to ensure full traceability of any donated skin samples from patient to researcher. This will enable disposal of the skin samples should the need arise, for example if the patient withdraws consent etc.
Research programme
Research Donors Ltd, Sanguinis and Nuffield Health have formed a new service in collaboration to collect excess skin samples that would usually be sent for incineration and use them for Biomedical research to help broaden and advance understanding in a variety of different Biomedical areas. It is hoped that the skin samples will support a wide range of Biomedical research including immune cell isolation and RNA sequencing.
