Research summary
Conception, pregnancy and childbirth can present a variety of medical problems, which in the extreme cases can lead to an inability to reproduce. Women of childbearing age can suffer from a number of orthopaedic conditions around the pelvis or hips which may result in the need for bone corrective surgery or arthoplasty (developmental dysplasia of the hip, previous slipped upper femoral epiphysis, previous Legg-Calve-Perthes disease), or they could be involved in trauma causing pelvic or hip fractures which leads to bony derangement and has required internal fixation. The potential for such surgery to result in post-operative pain or a change in physical function could be a cause for patient morbidity during sexual activity, pregnancy or childbirth.
This study will to be a comprehensive survey of sexual activity, pregnancy and childbirth in women who have undergone Orthopaedic procedures around the pelvis and hips.
