Research summary
How repeatable is the post-op diplopia test (PODT)?
Adults who have a longstanding squint (a mis-alignment of the eyes), and who want to have an operation to improve the appearance of their squint may be at risk to getting double vision (diplopia) once their eyes have been straightened. A test can be done to help predict which patients are at risk of getting diplopia, this is called the post-op diplopia test (PODT).
This research is designed to see how well this test predicts who will get double vision and who will not. This will help patients and surgeons to plan whether to go ahead with an operation. There is currently no research to prove how repeatable this test is.
The study is going to take place in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK.
Eligible patients are to include adults, aged 16 years or over, with a longstanding squint who are seeking treatment to improve the appearance of their squint.
We will be recruiting up to a 9 month period. Participants will be asked to do an one additional PODT at their visit, so participants will not require an extra visit.REC name
