Research summary
This research will explore the management of role related anxiety and the way in which relationships between colleagues and people using services mitigate this. The study will highlight systemic issues that assist or detract from the management of role related anxiety for mental health professionals and will contribute to organisational understanding of how to support mental health professionals to assess and manage risk concurrent to positive risk taking with people using mental health services. The study will also contribute to understanding of how partnership between mental health professionals and with people using mental health services can deepen understanding of risk assessment and management in order to generate a client centred model of risk management.
The study will be conducted with community teams located within mental health services (Partnership Foundation Trust). Participants will be sought from mental health professionals and people using mental health services and asked to engage in semi-structured interviews of approximately 1.5 hours. Data will also be collected via observation of multi-disciplinary meetings where risk would typically be discussed. Notes will be made on observations of conversation and interactions between staff and service users. Data will then analysed in order to identify themes.REC name
