  • Research summary

The ultimate aim of our research is to develop a new wound dressing and device that will enable doctors and nurses looking after patients with open, nonhealing
diabetic foot wounds to know how well they are healing and if there are
any issues that might cause them to heal slowly.
Before such a dressing and device can be developed, we need to understand what molecules are produced, in what order and what they mean in terms of how the wound is healing or what other medical conditions may be affecting it.
In the original study we obtained fluid and samples of small numbers of cells from the surface of wounds to see what biomarkers can be obtained from these samples and as the wound heals see how the levels and pattern of the biomarkers change.
We have analysed 90 out of 180 sets of samples. We need further time to complete the analysis on all samples.
