Research summary
This research forms part of my thesis for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
The project aims to gather a detailed insight into the lived experience of attempted suicide. I aim to explore the factors which lead someone to make an attempt on their own life. My research to date has highlighted that there is a lack of qualitative research into this area. I feel that qualitative enquiry could help to enhance our understanding of this population and this understanding could be used to enhance the support offered to people who may be at risk of suicide and to develop suicide prevention strategies.
The study will recruit people who have made a single suicide attempt with moderate-strong intent (as rated by themselves) of ending their life. Their experiences will be explored via semi-structured interviews which will aim to elicit their lived experience of this event, specifically focusing on the factors that led to their decision to make an attempt on their life.REC name
