Research summary
The study aims to explore the subjective experiences of individuals who feel that they have recovered from trauma/ are currently experiencing recovery from trauma, to uncover which aspects of mental health services have contributed to this recovery. The results of this research hope to reveal what services are currently doing well to facilitate recovery from trauma and provide information about what services can do more of.
Positive experiences of mental health services which helped recovery from trauma is the area being studied.
Participants will have to feel that they a) have experienced/ are experiencing recovery from trauma and b) have accessed/ are currently accessing mental health service(s), but require less support than they did previously received, due to improvements in mental health.
The study will involve participants providing one 30-40 minute semi-structured interview, which will take an appreciative inquiry approach, focusing on his/her positive experiences of mental health services which the individual feels have contributed to his/her recovery.
Interviews will be conducted face-to-face at Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys (TEWV) NHS sites. However, if the target number of participants is not reached, participants who have indicated they would like to be contacted for interview but are unable to travel to the NHS site will be offered a telephone interview instead. The study will last approximately 6 months.
