Research summary
Scientist and doctors want to know how the human body responds to severe COVID-19 illness. The way the body’s immune system responds to COVID-19 is different in every patient. It has been reported that older people/those with certain pre-existing conditions are more likely to have a severe illness. However, some people who feel very unwell with COVID-19 rapidly make a full recovery while others do not. It is important to understand why there is this difference in recovery. To understand this scientists will measure the immune responses in different people who are admitted to the UCLH for COVID-19. This will guide scientists working with doctors to develop strategies to help patients who have severe COVID-19.
