Research summary
The COVID-19 outbreak that began in China in December 2019 has set an unprecedented demand on healthcare systems across the world. There is evidence in global media that care delivery to critically-ill patients has placed a burden on healthcare staff. Therefore, the concerns, intentions and behaviours of healthcare workers represent an important area of research (Michie 2020). This rapid appraisal will explore HCWs’ perceptions and experiences of responding to the COVID-19 epidemic in the UK. \n\nThe study aims to:\n1.\tExplore the perceptions of healthcare workers in relation to COVID-19, and infected and potentially infected patients. \n2.\tExplore the perceptions of healthcare workers in relation to the suitability of care delivery models and infrastructure to deal with the epidemic.\n3.\tIdentify the factors that shape clinical decision-making and action. \n\nThe study is based on telephone interviews with up to 60 members of NHS staff. The interviews will be semi-structured and will be audio recorded. Audio recordings will be transcribed and analysed using framework analysis.
