Research summary
Childhood is arguably the most important period in a person's life, influenced heavily by health, education and social interactions. Children with complete failure of one or more organs encounter a number of challenges which invariably affect their growth and development in each of these areas. There is currently little data on clinical or quality of life outcomes in children undergoing transplantation of more than one organ in childhood (also known as a 'multi-organ transplant).
The aim of this study is to provide data on clinical and quality of life outcomes in children undergoing multi-organ transplantation. The data from this study will provide a better understanding of the outcomes in this highly-complex group of transplant recipients, thereby improving the quality of care provided by healthcare professionals.
This study will look at the clinical outcomes (patient and organ graft survival) of children who have had a multi-organ transplant in childhood within the last 20 years. We will aim to recruit children from across the UK. Children will be given a questionnaire to capture quality of life data and clinical information will be gathered from existing medical records.
