  • Research summary

The study will adopt a qualitative and quantitative approach in order to address quality of life for people with learning disabilities. Participants eligible for the study include individuals from Salford with a learning disability, who have lived in an out of area placement and have since moved back to the Salford community. Although there is no direct benefit to the participant, the study will provide an opportunity to express opinions and experiences about their current and previous living environments, which they may have been unable to do prior to this study. The study hopes to provide evidence for commissioners to develop local services for people with learning disabilities and to promote individual person centred care. \nThe quantitative data has been pre-collected as part of a service audit for Salford Joint Learning Disability Team. As the researcher is an Assistant Psychologist within this team, they have access to this data and will input the collected data on to a computer database while working within this role. Analysis of this data will be conducted at the researchers home on a password protected computer using SPSS software. As a student at the University of Salford the researcher has access to a personal copy of this software. Qualitative data will be collected by the researcher (student co-investigator) via the use of semi-structured interviews and transcripts will be analysed using Thematic Analysis. \nParticipants will be invited to read and discuss the participant information sheet and research timeline with the student researcher and to sign a consent form before taking part in an interview. Interviews will last between 10 and 30 minutes, however interview times will vary depending upon the amount of information shared by the participant. The study will commence upon receipt of ethical approval and aims to be completed by January 2014.
