Research summary
This project will assess the current fetal MRI service in Sheffield from a qualitative perspective of both service users and professionals to identify areas for improvement. The main research themes for patients/service users will be concerning stress levels and the value of the experience. Research questions for patients will include:
1. Understanding & explanation of the reason for the fetal MRI prior to attending
2. Level of stress before the MRI
3. The process of the MRI – stress levels, support and explanation
4. Feelings after the scan – how results were explained and was it valuable being given the results on the day
5. Follow up interviews/focus groups will focus on whether the MRI scan was helpful for future appointments, decision making and birth
The research with professionals will focus on the value fetal MRI adds to patient counselling and management. Questions will include:
1. Is it helpful for perinatal counselling if the patient already knows the MRI result
2. Is the added information from the MRI useful in perinatal counselling
3. Why are referrals for fetal MRI madeREC name
