Research summary
Orthognathic treatment is the treatment modality that combines orthodontic treatment and facial surgery to correct an existing dentofacial deformity. Orthognathic treatment is a time-consuming treatment that requires a great degree of patient commitment.
Dentofacial deformities are known to cause effects on quality of life and self-esteem.
Orthognathic treatment is known to have positive improvements on both. Few studies have been prospective on a UK based cohort. Of the studies done abroad, social and cultural factors possibly affect the external validity of the data.
This prospective cohort study aims to assess the change quality of life and self-esteem following orthognathic treatment through the use of the orthognathic quality of life questionnaire and the Roseburg self-esteem questionnaire.REC name
