Research summary
Women with HIV experience psychosexual problems following diagnosis. Despite advances in HIV treatment, stigma and fear of HIV transmission impact on women’s relationships. We aim to describe the psychosexual problems faced by women with HIV following diagnosis.
Women with HIV experience a mismatch in fertility aspirations and experience due to the impact of HIV on their relationships and family desires. This leads to later family planning and increased need for fertility treatment. This problem has decreased over time with advances in HIV treatments and attitudes to HIV, however it may still be a significant concern.
HIV has become a chronic disease with advances in its treatment and now people with HIV live longer. Many women with HIV now experience menopause. The subsequent changes in the mind, body and medical problems, may all be affected by HIV infection.REC name
