Research summary
This research will aim to explore the psychological impact of clinician-diagnosed food allergy in adults and the effect of undergoing clinically indicated food challenges in improving health related quality of life. Challenge testing involves the graded administration of the potential culprit food in order to identify if a patient is allergic or whether they can tolerate the food and therefore re-introduce it in their diet.
This research is important as it will explore the experience of adults living with food allergy, the impact on their quality of life and also assess the effect of undergoing a food challenge in changing this.
We aim to interview individuals who have previously undergone a food challenge test in order to explore the patient’s experience of undergoing such an investigation. We are also going to carry out a survey of individuals who have been diagnosed with food allergy with and without a food challenge as well as carry out a prospective questionnaire study of individuals before and after having a clinically indicated food challenge.REC name
