Research summary
This project aims to identify predictors of response to psychological therapy. Participants will be recruited from Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) services in the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust whilst waiting for treatment to begin. Participants will attend a research appointment where they will be asked to provide a biological samples (covered by a separate ethical approval), have a diagnostic interview and complete some questionnaires. Participants will also be given a questionnaire pack to take home and return by mail or at their treatment appointment. Therefore the study will investigate clinical, psychosocial and biological predictors of treatment outcome. Currently, over half of patients do not respond to psychological therapy but there is little research investigating why this may be. Identifying predictors of response will allow patients to be directed to indicated services. As part of standard IAPT treatment, participants complete standard outcome measures at each appointment. We will use these measures as a marker of response.
