  • Research summary

This project aims to determine the predictive power of microalbuminuria after a TIA or minor stroke (diagnosed in stroke clinic and does not need a hospital admission) for further cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events. Secondary outcomes of the study include furthering our understanding of the mechanisms of acute change in microalbuminuria in the setting of acute vascular events. The study will be a prospective observational study of patients presenting to the rapid access stroke/TIA clinics. Patients will be recruited after consultant review and treatment plans have been initiated. Patients admitted with TIA can also be recruited in to the study.
The participants of the study will be asked to provide informed consent, provide a single mid-stream urine specimen and permission to perform 3 follow-up telephone calls at days 7(+7d), 30 (+14d) and 90 (+14d), to ensure the participant remains in good health, check for any adverse events and report on any outcome measures.
