Data collection arrangements
Patients with the diagnosis of mantle cell lymphoma and related diseases will be invited to donate a small amount of their blood and biopsy tissues for research into mantle cell lymphoma and the lymphoma.
We aim to collect biological samples and clinical data from patients to enhance our understanding of mantle cell lymphoma. With this data and material we hope to improve out understanding in the cellular pathways and on how the cancerous cells grow and divide. We also hope to develop better diagnostic test, more effective prognostic tests and in time better treatment and treatment approaches. All research carried out will be specific to the disease and translational.
Patients will be invited to participate in this project and they will have an opportunity to discuss the project with the research team. Patients will be provide with an information sheet outlining the project and written consent will be taken before any data or material is taken.
Histological materials will be stored in the histopathology laboratory at Derriford Hospital and anonymised peripheral blood cells will be stored in the research laboratory at the University of Plymouth, Medical school research laboratory.
Development of this data base will enable essential research in furthering our knowledge of mantle cell lymphoma and lymphoma.Research programme
The research programme supported by the bank will be primarily based at the University of Plymouth, Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and Derriford Hospital. It will be conducted by the haematology research group at Plymouth which is headed by Prof Simon Rule. The main focus will be translational research in mantle cell lymphoma and lymphoproliferative disorders (cancers of the white cells like lymphoma)so to enhance the understanding in the these cancers and hopefully translate this into developing new better diagnostic, prognostic tests and treatments.
