Research summary
Each UK GP practice processes hundreds of letters regarding their patients every day, usually using electronic document management software such as Docman. This work is usually done by GPs, however a more efficient alternative could be to harness advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
This is a small scale study that links to a wider project (UREC reference 2018-4972-7122) we are working on with Docman. The study aims to provide understanding of how letters regarding patients are currently processed within UK GP practices and staff perspectives of how AI might be used in this process.
We will purposively recruit 5-10 GP practices that are already participating in the linked project and interview up to two staff members from each practice. The interview will be conducted remotely using telephone and Skype and will include: questions on current letter processing practices, a demonstration of how letters are processed using a dummy Docman account, a usability test in the same dummy account of AI features, and follow up questions.REC name
