Research summary
Huntington's disease (HD) is an incurable inherited disorder which causes cognitive, physical and emotional changes. Apathy( reduced drive and initiative) is often a feature of HD and this can have a impact on the quality of life of both the service user and his/her family .
A qualitative study is proposed and 8-10 service users with HD and their carers will be interviewed. Participants will have capacity and informed consent will be taken. A semi structured interview will take place which will be recorded for fact verification and later transcribed.Topics for interview will include the nature of the apathy, how it afects the day to day living of the service user. These topics will also be discussed in a seperate interview with the carer.
Interpretative phenomenological analysis will be used to analyse the data.
Full written feed back will be given to the study participants as well as an opportunity to discuss the findings.REC name
