Research summary
Young people with a health condition will experience numerous invasive procedures during their lives. For the purpose of this study invasive procedures is in relation to procedures requiring insertion through the skin such as for blood tests. Sometimes these procedures can result in anxiety requiring psychological input. Evidence shows that if clinical staff and caregivers can understand the experiences of young people regarding invasive procedures and anxiety, adaptations can be made to reduce distress. This study seeks to understand the factors which contribute to anxiety and distress regarding invasive procedures. Thematic analysis will be utilised to draw themes from the experiences of young people to identify potential areas for improvement.
