Research summary
This project would look at making available laboratory tests called Procalcitonin and immature granulocytes (early white blood cells) to doctors who suspect that their patient is suffering from sepsis. If a raised level of these tests can be shown in patients with suspected sepsis they prove to be a valuable indicator when used in conjunction with other tests. Although these two tests have been identified independently in previous studies in relation to sepsis, they have not been evaluated as combined and compared factors of the sepsis screening pathway. There is a demand from the clinical area at ABMUH to investigate the functionality of introducing this test into the laboratory test repertoire. \n
