Research summary
The study aims to establish how common (prevalence) of Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) in Wales to be able to contribute towards an aligned wider project aiming to ascertain the prevalence of HS globally.
The study is an explorative, descriptive study based on a validated screening questionnaire. The target population is all adults (18 years and older) who are registered with Health Wise Wales. This is a register that includes over 40,000 participants across Wales who are willing to contribute to research. Health Wise Wales will advertise a link to the study questionnaire via an online survey platform.
The primary objective is to determine the proportion of participants who screen positive using the screening questionnaire and therefore the prevalence of HS symptoms in the sample. A selected number of participant will be invited to attend an in-person review depending on their survey results. This will involve a short examination by a trained healthcare professional to prove the ability of the questionnaire in correctly detecting Hidradenitis Suppurativa.REC name
