    Aim

    The aim of this study is to discuss what has influenced senior doctors to prescribe antibiotics for acute lower respiratory tract infections.

    Objectives

    • Review the current literature around what does influence doctors decision making process when prescribing antibiotics
    • Conduct semi structured interviews with senior doctors working within a hospital setting
    • Discuss with senior doctors within the interviews what influences them when prescribing of antibiotics for acute bacterial infections
    • Analyse and describe these different prescribing influences.
    • Discuss way that these influences affect their prescribing habits and choices and the decision making process involved when prescribing antibiotics for acute lower respiratory tract infections.
